I am a senior in high school(18) and I have to do a project on a piece of architechture. I would like to do it on Poenari Castle, but is in ruins now and all I can find so far is stuff on Vlad himself. I have to find specifics on the castles construction, cost, and layout and then...since there aren't any pictures of what it looked like, I will have to build it...fun HUH? So, any suggestions? If anybody has some 'hard evidence' I would be even more thankful. Thanks a bunch, alexis ------------------ Mustang Hey let us know what you find. I am doing an ongoing study of Vlad and his life and the entire geopolitical enviroment he was in. And something like that would be a nice addition. Llywelynalexis_wa Okay, Marko I don't have any suggestions as to the layout but here's a link to a site on Poenari Castle. It shows several color pics of the ruins and a little info. http://www.draculascastle.com/html/poenari.html
Here are some other links showing pics of the castle ruins. http://www.medievalroutes.com/poenari.jpg http://mountains.kgb.cz/en/Romania1999/Poenari/index.htm http://cjarges.pitesti.ro/24.htm
This one only gives some English info (scroll down somewhere halfway because the upper text is in Romanian, the middle in English and the lower in French). http://cjarges.pitesti.ro/itinerar.htm
A little search on a searchengine for poenari gives a lot of hits. Maybe on one of them you'll find an older image of the castle but it'll be very time consuming, I guess.
"But round about the castle there began to grow a hedge of thorns, which every year became higher...."
Visit my website at http://www.castles.nl/Mustang Just an idea, I researched Vlad Dracula and all of his castles. You might try to research another one of his castles. A particular favorite of mine is Hunedoara Castle a.k.a. Huniazi Castle. Vlad Dracula was one of its inhabitants. It is also located in Romania. If you don't fancy a change in castle, I would suggest the websites listed by Marko but also do some "deep" exploring. I'm sorry I can't offer more help right now, I'll see what I can find Llywelyn Greetings, Marko While surfing I came across another nice page with beautiful pictures made by Simon Marsden in Dracula's Transylvania. One of these pictures shows Poienari Castle. Which reminded me of this post. http://www.marsdenarchive.com/library/draculas_transylvania.html
